Comparative Study on THD and Output Voltage Performance of Conventional Cascaded and Hybrid Multi Level Inverter with Multiple PWM Schemes

Requirement for high level power conversion circuits in industrial drives resolved by the evolution of Multi level power converter structures. The attention towards inverters, especially on multi level inverters (MLI) is ever-increasing phenomenon in industrial and academic sector due to its numerous benefits and applications. The issues like more number of components, harmonics and switching stress leads the development of advanced MLI topologies and PWM schemes. This paper proposes a comparative analysis of conventional cascaded multi-level and hybrid MLI topologies and the performance of hybrid MLI on THD and output voltage with multiple PWM schemes. The harmonic spectrum and output voltage performance of hybrid MLI with various PWM schemes verified through MATLAB simulation and verified by prototype development.
