A process for producing zinc oxide

A process for the preparation of non-acicular zinc oxide crystallising from the gas phase, characterized by the steps of: - preparing a reaction gas through a) evaporation of metallic zinc or a zinc precursor compound, Evaporation of at least one aluminum halide as a structure-modifying agent and combining the partial streams, b) feeding oxygen, air or an oxygen supplier in the gas stream or at least a portion of the gas stream to form a reaction gas, - collecting the solid product of zinc oxide, which is deposited from the reaction gas.
