The Application of 1-D Nonlinear Consolidation Model Considering Additional Stress Distribution in the Road Engineering Construction

2011
Based on the theory of 1-D Terzaghi's Consolidation, the consolidation model considering the random additional stress distribution, initial effective stress distribution, nonlinear stress-strain relationship, and arbitrary loading is established. The semi-analytical solution is used to solve the problem, and the impact of the additional stress distribution on the consolidation properties is studied by the relevant program for computation developed by the author. From these computed results, it is easy to see that the final settlement computed by this new model is close to the result computed by the layerwise summation method, and the consolidation curves defined by the settlement considering effect of additional stress distribution is very different from the case without considering it. The relationship between the final settlement by layerwise summation method and settlement process by general 1-D consolidation theory is established by the new model, and the prediction on the settlement process and post construction settlement will be more rational in the road engineering construction.
