In human history, inhabitation is one of primordial activities of human beings and it defines the ways of their daily existence. The approach to inhabitation is influenced by the economic and productive structure but, at the same time, creates and shapes the rural and urban space. This article is an introduction to the ways of inhabiting rural Sardinia in the modern age, starting from the land system to the structure of the villages to analyze the housing of shepherds and peasants. The unification of Italy in the XIX century triggered Sardinian elites towards new stylistic models inspired by the new “national” taste.
