The unity between environmental changes and metabolic activity in bacterial wave growth

2000
Objective: To elucidate the relationship of environmental changes with metabolic activity in bacterial wave growth. Methods: The protein and glucose content and pH were analyzed quantitatively in different areas of bacterial wave growth and the bacterial TTC dehydrogenase activity was also determined inside and outside the wave areas. Results: Bacterial metabolism nearly ceased after the formation of a sealed environment and when the substance gradient occurred, bacterial metabolism tended to be vigorous. Conclusion: Bacterial wave growth embodies the harmony between bacterial dissipation and ecological environment.
