Diagnostics and Therapy Planning from the Perspective of the Neuropaediatrician

2021
The primary goal of neuropaediatric diagnostics is the etiological classification of the movement disorder. At least as important in the second step is the diagnosis of the extent of the functional disorder and its significance in the everyday life of the child. The decisive factor is the emphasis on individual everyday, jointly agreed and reviewed therapy goals. In order to arrive at common therapy goals in an interdisciplinary manner together with the patient, individual diagnostics is used here to define the goal of the therapeutic activity. Traditional diagnostics aim at the “objective parameters”, measurable structural deficits such as force reduction, active range of motion, contractures and innervation. Modern diagnostics also focuses on performance—ultimately what the patient does with his reduced possibilities in everyday life—and the limitations that inhibit him or her in everyday life.
