Effect of planting geometry and organic sources of nutrients on growth, yield and quality of rabi onion Cv. Bellary red*

2012
The field experiment to study the effect of different sources of nutrients and planting geometry on growth, yield and quality parameters of onion Cv. Bellary red was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Hagari (University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad) during rabi 2006-07. The results revealed that maximum plant height and leaf length was recorded with the application of 50% FYM (12.50 t ha-1) + 50% VC (2 t ha-1) + biofertilizers (Azospirillum and phosphate solubalizing bacteria @ 5 kg ha-1 each) with 15 cm x 7.5 cm spacing followed by 15 x10 cm spacing and highest number of leaves and leaf width was recorded when crop provided with 50% FYM (12.50 t ha-1) + 50% VC (2 t ha-1) + biofertilizers (Azospirillum and phosphate solubalizing bacteria @ 5 kg ha-1 each) with 20 cm x 15 cm spacing. Bulb yield, net returns and B:C were maximum in the crop nourished with 50% FYM (12.50 t ha-1) + 50% VC (2 t ha-1) + biofertilizers (Azospirillum and phosphate solubalizing bacteria @ 5 kg ha-1 each) with 15 cm x 10 cm spacing followed 50% FYM (12.50 t ha-1) + 50% VC (2 t ha-1) + biofertilizers (Azospirillum and phosphate solubalizing bacteria @ 5 kg ha-1 each) with 15 cm x 15 cm spacing.
