Calidad de vida en pacientes con enfermedad de Crohn ileocecal posterior a tratamiento quirúrgico.

2021
Introduction: Ileocecal involvement in Crohn's disease is the most frequent presentation. There is little evidence of the impact of surgical treatment on the quality of life of patients. Materials and methods:A study retrospective study of a prospectively collected database was carried out including all patients who underwent surgery for Crohn's disease with ileocecal involvement by a single group of surgeons during a period of 30 months. Our primary outcome was the comparison of quality of life before and 4 months after surgical intervention by means of two validated questionnaires (Short Form-36, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire). We additionally assessed the morbidity of the procedures. Results:Nineteen patients who underwent surgery were included in the study. Median age was 34 years (23-72), 16 patients underwent laparoscopic surgery and 2 patients required re operations. Median follow-up was 16 months (4-30). Three patients (16%) presented major complications. Patients showed an average improvement of 46% in the parameters assessed by the SF-36 questionnaire (p<0.0001) and 81 points (p<0.0001) in the values of the IBDQ questionnaire after surgery. Conclusion:The surgical treatment of Crohn's disease with ileocecal involvement presents good post-operative results and a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients after the procedure.
