One of the Family Medicine Core Competencies: Community-Oriented Care -

Adopting the basic features of family medicine and use in daily practice can be provided by assimilating core competencies of the discipline. In this article, we aimed to discuss the community-oriented care which is one of the core competencies of family medicine. In order to provide effective health care, we need to evaluate entire population we serve, not just individuals referring to us with taking into account the health patterns and better managing health resources. Identification of the community and to demonstrate the importance and priority health problems is the first step to be taken. This approach which requires unselfishness and teamwork will improve the quality of health. In this direction to provide community-oriented care in primary care, training programs can be arranged for physicians and encouragement of them can be provided.
