A shock tube, which means a hollow plastic tube with explosive powder coated inner surface of it, is employed as an explosive fuse in blasting to trigger detonation. In order to improve the performance of the shock tube, it is necessary to increase the physical properties of the tube. Therefore, in this study, the effects of the type of base resin and the tube preparation conditions on the properties of the 2-layer shock tubes were investigated. The 2-layer shock tubes with outer polyethylene layer and inner ionomer layer were prepared by co-extrusion. The ionomer with higher ion content increased tensile strength of the tube and the polyethylene with smaller melt index and higher density increased tensile strength of the tube. And, tensile strength of the tube increased with stretching ratio.
