Terahertz-Induced Electron Emission from a Gold Surface

Electron emission from a gold surface was observed at THz peak field strengths above 40 kV/cm. Flipping the polarity of the THz pulses resulted in a significantly different current signal. The electron signal, also measured as function of the THz polarization angle, showed double maxima.
