An Experience of Conservative Treatment for Infantile Type of Blount's Disease

1989
Five patients with infantile type of Blount's disease were observed. All patients were treated conservatively. One patient with Langenskiold's stage II was healed spontaneously without brace. Four patients were treated with a long-leg brace. Three of them had good results but one patient progressed to Langenskiold's stage III.We observed the radiographic change of femorotibial angle (FTA) and metaphyseal-diaphyseal angle (MDA). It was concluded that MDA is more reproducible than FTA, and is a useful marker for early diagnosis and treatment of infantile type of Blount's disease.
