[Video-assisted placing of a gastrostomy button in children. Ten years of experiences show advantages of the method].

2005
: This report summarizes the experience of more than 300 gastrostomies performed during a ten-year period on children, 3 months (2.6 kg) to 15 years of age. The method used included the use of a video-assisted technique to perform a gastrostomy and placing a gastrostomy button directly in the stoma for use as soon as the child woke up after anaesthesia. The method did not cause any serious per- or postoperative complications and there were no re-does. Minor complications including granuloma, infections and leakage were common during the first two months postoperatively. Due to the child's anatomy this method should be preferred in children.
