Digitalization of the Greenlandic satellite network

1995
TELE Greenland is responsible for establishing and operating telecommunications in Greenland. Satellite communications is a very important element in the Greenlandic telecommunications network. Satellites are used for communication and TV-distribution to remote areas in Greenland and for connections between Greenland and the outside world. The Greenlandic satellite network is shown. Three different satellite systems are used: INTELSAT, EUTELSAT, and GE AMERICOM. While the EUTELSAT and the GE AMERICOM circuits from their initiation were digital, the circuits in the INTELSAT transponder initially were analog, FM SCPC. As TELE Greenland in the 1990's is digitalizing its telephone exchanges and terrestrial radio relay system, digitalization of the INTELSAT earth stations became necessary. This is described in some detail.
