Laser-gma hybrid welding: Distortion analysis and design optimization modelling techniques

2005
Laser-Gas Metal Arc (GMA) hybrid welding is a growing technological advancement in many industries including automotive and shipbuilding man-ufacturing. The paper focuses on the experimental testing of Laser, Gas Metal Arc (GMA), and Laser-GMA Hybrid welding. The goal is to determine the effects of these weld types, particularly the distortion generated from the heat input. An eigenvalue analysis is performed on the resulting test data to evaluate the presence of buckling and angular distortion. Additionally a Design Optimization method is proposed to predict weld geometry during thermal modeling.
