Homocisteína, implicaciones en riesgo cardiovascular

2015
Several epidemiological studies have revealed that hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is a risk factor of coronary arteriosclerosis, cerebral, peripheral, and aortic.  This is independent from other cardiovascular risk factors, and it is major at more homocysteine concentration (Hcy). However, prospective studies show even contradictory results.  The HHcy is also associated to a higher risk of thromboembolic disease, which could be modulated by other coagulation alterations, such as V Leiden factor. Increase of plasmatic Hcy concentration may be due both to hereditary alterations of the enzymes involved in is metabolism and other factors (mainly dietary, such as deficit of vitamins B 6 , B 12  and folic acid). Contribution of supplements of these vitamins has proved to be effective to decrease Hcy concentration. Clinical tests, which demonstrate that its decrease leads to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, are still needed.
