Incitations financières chez la femme enceinte fumeuse. Une approche pluridisciplinaire
2018
Smoking has become a major public health concern, a risk factor for numerous diseases, the first avoidable cause of mortality. It also highly contributes to social health inequalities. Smoking during pregnancy is associated with serious health consequences. It is not only associated with negative health outcomes in the mother during pregnancy but it is also a predictor of negative birth outcomes and health outcomes in childhood and up to adulthood. In this article, we describe the current situation of smoking pregnant women and describe multidisciplinary studies, that combine economics with medicine, that test the use of financial incentives to help pregnant women quit smoking. This is a less invasive process compared to any drug treatment and has proven significant and positive effect on abstinence during pregnancy in several developed countries.
