Lymphangioma of the Transverse Colon: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

1998
Lymphangioma in the gastrointestinal tract is extremely rare, particularly in the case of lymphangioma that had developed in the colon. This report concerns a 68-year-old man complaining of intermittent, dull, umbilical pain of one month's duration. Barium-enema examination and colonscope revealed a oval cystic tumor at the midportion of the transverse colon, and the presumptive diagnosis was cystic submucosal tumor of the colon. Partial colectomy was performed and histologic examination revealed combination type (cavernous & cystic) of lymphangioma originating from the submucosa.
