O fluxo migratório entre São Paulo e Buenos Aires: deslocamentos, nacionalidades e motivações (1890- 1930)

2017
Between 1870 and 1930, Brazil and Argentina together received approximately 11 million immigrants who were attracted by labor opportunities, expectations of improved living conditions and encouragement of immigration by these two countries. Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires were the primary choice of destination for immigrants during this time. Over the same period, close to half of all immigrants returned to their countries of origin or re-immigrated to other locations. Sources reveal considerable migratory flow between the ports of Santos and Buenos Aires at that time. Annually, thousands of foreigners departed from one port to another, forming a significant tide of reimmigration. There were several factors influencing migratory flow between these two cities; the foremost being economic conditions and opportunities offered to foreigners in both regions.
