LOW FRICTION AREAS FOR SKID TRAINING

There are about ten areas for skid training in Sweden today. The object of this investigation is to develop a system for artificial slipperiness on test roads all through the year. Accessible knowledge and experience, in and outside Sweden, have been studied. The skid road systems known today have been tested in laboratory or in the field. A large number of surfacings of different texture have been tested in a laboratory track for measurement of the friction. A thorough literature and experimental study of skid agents is also included in the report. Further field tests are planned for evaluation of durability and costs. (TRRL)
