SCIENTIFIC NOTE NEW RECORDS FOR MICRONESIAN MOSQUITOES

The mosquito fauna of Micronesia is diverse and subject to introductions of exotic species and local extinctions. We report on 2 recently identified populations of exotic mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus and Anopheles campestris, to the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Guam. The US military has installations throughout Micronesia. Surveys of arthropod and snail vectors of human and animal diseases are conducted regularly as part of vector control programs and force health protection. Newly introduced mosquito species are occasionally detected.
