System and method for controlling a stop-start system for a combustion engine of a vehicle

A control system for controlling a start-stop system for an engine (12) in a vehicle (10) having an automatic transmission (14), comprising: a controller that is configured to restart the engine (12) under at least one condition automatically, which includes a moving direction of a shift lever (18), and to suppress the automatic restarting the engine (12) under at least one other condition including the direction of movement of the shift lever (18) when the engine (12) has been automatically stopped, and the shift lever (18) is switched out of NEUTRAL, characterized, in that the at least one other condition includes that the shift lever (18) is moved from NEUTRAL to REVERSE direction / PARKING, wherein the shift lever (18) has the end position PARK, and the engine (12) to the automatic transmission (14) has been automatically stopped in DRIVE, whereupon an automatic restarting the engine (12) is suppressed.
