The location of temperature sensors in pipe flows for determining the mean gas temperature in flow metering applications

1998
Abstract The work presented here is intended to indicate the optimum insertion depth of temperature probes used in natural gas pipe flows. Other influences as material layers in the protective pipe, working pressures and pipe wall temperatures are studied as well and recommendations for the optimum insertion depth are derived. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) on a 3D model using FLUENT 4.32 predicts the temperature with very little deviation from measurements. CFD proves to be a very powerful instrument for a quantitative analysis of flow meter instrumentation.
