Holiday caravaning in Wales—construction of a national site inventory☆

Abstract Until 1980 a national inventory of caravan site opportunity for Wales had not been produced, although the Wales Tourist Board had twice attempted one during the 1970s. This paper attempts to outline how such an inventory was produced using primarily public health and planning authority data. The rationale for constructing such an inventory lay in assessing the significance of caravan tourism in Wales. This is discussed in terms of site location.
