철학상담과 흄의 철학

2012
Philosophy counsellors can be likened to the pharmacist, the counselee to the patient who seeks help at the pharmacy. The role of the philosophy counsellor performs a role that is similar to the way the pharmacist prescribes the appropriate medication after listening to the patient’s symptoms and reaching a diagnosis. This analogy carries varying significance, but importantly, just as the pharmacy needs its stock of medication, philosophical counselling has to be equipped with philosophy. It is realistically difficult for one philosophy counsellor to specialize in every area of philosophy. Therefore, it would be of great help to provide suitable material that properly appropriates the abstract and academic source material of philosophy for the purpose of philosophical counselling. This essay is an academic attempt to provide such assistance. The chosen subject for this research is David Hume. Often considered comparable to Kant, Hume's philosophy is brimming with not only academic and in-depth content but also valuable wisdom which can serve as a guideline for a healthy modern life. The philosophical subjects discussed in this research are epistemological scepticism, naturalism and moderate scepticism presented in his main written works, A Treatise of Human Nature and An Enquiry concerning Human Understanding. This essay will provide the philosophical context of these subjects, and look into its implications and usages in the area of counselling.
