Influence of electrolysis parameters on the magnetic properties of finely divided cobalt powder

1969
1. Electrolyte concentration exerts a marked effect on the magnetic properties of cobalt. Under comparable conditions, cobalt powders have Hc = 1400 Oe and Br = 8000 G at an electrolyte concentration of 100 g/liter, the respective values at a concentration of 400 g/liter being 380 Oe and 5070 G. 2. Raising cathodic current density from 4 to 60 A/dm2 leads to an increase in the magnetic characteristics of finely divided cobalt. 3. The magnetic properties of fine cobalt powder are also affected by electrolyte acidity. The coercive force is 640 Oe at pH 1 and 400 Oe at pH 5; the saturation induction Br exhibits a substantial drop, from 7350 G at pH 1 to 4300 G at pH 5.
