2019
The article inquiries into the role of indigenous institutionality and its public policies (with claims of interculturality) as expressions of a contemporary indigenous model in Jujuy, Argentina. We aim to analyze the Department of Indigenous Peoples from a critical perspective of Latin American indigenism. We carry out an analysis of the actions implemented by the Department between 2016 and 2019 in order to understand how the functions established in its Creation Decree were performed in December 2015. We adopted a qualitative work methodology that uses documentary research and in-depth interviews as data-constructing techniques. We contribute to indigenism study field at a subnational level in Argentina by incorporating theoretical perspectives of Indian-indigenous political thought. We consider as a case study the experience of creating a newly emerging indigenous institution in a provincial context characterized by the implementation of a neo-extractivist and neo-developmental productive structure in territories inhabited by Nations, Peoples, Communities, Indian-Indigenous Organizations.
