Fundamental principles of mechanical pulping from softwoods and hardwoods. I. Theoretical aspects

In order to explain what happens during the chemical and mechanical treatments in thermomechanical and chemicothermomechanical pulpings, analysis of fibre structure and composition was used to obtain selective fibre separation and to choose the appropriate chemicals. Softwoods and hardwoods were studied, and a comparison between these species was done. Transfer kinetics was also considered in the wood and fibre structure of both wood species and their effects on the TMP and CTMP properties.
