Study on Biological Characteristics of Monochamus alternatus Hope

2010
Biological characteristics feed habits, host of oviposition, and choice of oviposition, etc.of Monochamus alternatus were studied by field observation and lab investigation in this paper.M.alternatus prefered to rest, feed, and lay eggs on Pinus massonlana,Cedrus deodara and Pinus elliottii, less on Podocarpus macrophyllus,Sabina chinensis and Cryptomeria fortunei, hardly on Tamarix and Metasequoia. The observation in laboratory showed the preoviposition period of was(5.74±0.27) d,the peak period of oviposition lasted longer about 1.5 months, initial oviposition and final were shortest. The longevity of male was(65.11±13.37) days, while female(75.78±15.41) days. The total oviposition amount of a female was(155.89±67.22).The study may provide some theoretical instruction on the control of M.alternatus and the epidemic widespread of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in Southwest of China.
