High–Gain Folded Reflectarray Antenna Operating at 1 THz

2021
Compact, high-gain and high-efficiency antennas are in high demand for future 6G terabit-per-bit wireless communications systems. This paper introduces a novel silicon-based folded reflectarray antenna operating at 1 THz as a high-gain THz antenna solution. The antenna consists of an open-ended waveguide, bottom main reflectarray layer and an upper polarizer. The anisotropic dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is employed as the building block of the bottom main reflectarray to realize simultaneous phase compensation and polarization conversion. The THz folded reflectarray antenna was fabricated using photolithography and deep reactive ion etching of high-resistivity silicon wafers. Both simulated and measured results verified that the proposed THz folded reflectarray antenna can realize high directivity at 1 THz.
