Patient Presentation and Pathologic Diagnosis of Superficial Carcinoma of the Esophagus: High-Grade Dysplasia and Mucosal Carcinoma from the Japanese Standpoint

It is well known that there are large differences between Western and Japanese pathologists regarding the criteria used for the histologic diagnosis of dysplasia and carcinoma with no or minimal invasion in the gastrointestinal tract 2, 3, 4, 5. Many of these discrepancies arise from differences in the nomenclature used to describe gastrointestinal tract cancers.
