The effectiveness of the splint succession in patients with muscular-articular dysfunction before the prosthetic treatment

2019
Muscle-articular dysfunction is a common anxiety among patients in prosthetic dentistry. Nowadays there is no accepted algorithm in the case of providing preliminary care of this group of patients before the prosthetic treatment. At the same time, the absence of such algorithm can lead to different stomatognathic complications. In this study bio-electric activity of mastication muscles was examined by surface electromyography in patients with muscle-articular dysfunction. Splint therapy was suggested as a preliminary care before prosthetic treatment in order to allow stomatognathic system to adjust to a new mandibular position and a new height of occlusion. Bioelectric activity of mastication muscles was examined before, during and after the prosthetic treatment.
