Results of an experimental study of extreme minimal grain sizes in nanostructured metal materials produced by torsion under pressure are summarized. It has been shown that the most important factor for ability to refinement of grain and sub-grain microstructure under severe plastic deformation is the mobility of elementary deformation carriers (dislocations and point defects), which control path length of these carriers in fields of stresses, characteristic scales of reoriented micro-volumes and, consequently, submicro-, nanoand subgrains sizes.
