Study of the alternating copolymerization of isoprene and propylene using complex compounds of titanium and vanadium as catalysts

1982
Abstract The alternating copolymerization of isoprene and propylene on the systems TiCl 4 CH 3 COC 6 H 5 Al(iso-C 4 H 9 ) 3 and [(CH 3 ) 3 SiO]VOCl 2 Al(iso-C 4 H 9 ) 3 has been investigated under various conditions. The alternating copolymer of isoprene and propylene prepared in the presence of the “titanium” system has preferentially a 1,4- cis -microstructure for the isoprene units, compared with a 1,4- trans -microstructure observed for the copolymer in the presence of the “vanadium” system. The structure of isoprene units in the copolymers differs from the microstructure of isoprene homopolymers prepared under analogous conditions.
