The AIDS Crisis
2006
In this chapter, we examine the HIV/AIDS pandemic and its drivers in Malawi. As we have already seen, even without the AIDS pandemic, Malawi has dreadful health indicators – high rates of infant and child mortality, a doubling in maternal mortality and a crippling burden of infectious diseases. We will look at the data on the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and interactions between the disease, poverty and the health crisis.
