Okul Psikolojik Danışmanlarının Mesleki Algıları Üzerine Bir İnceleme

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate professional perception of school counselors in aspects of status, title, working conditions and experience. The study embraced phenomenological research of the qualitative design. Chosen by purposive sampling, the population of the study comprised 25 school counselor serving in guidance research centers and public schools in seven regions of Turkey. Data collected through a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form consisting of nine open-ended question items. Content analysis was performed in analyzing the data. As a result of the content analysis, there were three themes (professional perception in the developmental sense, positional perception and solution proposals) and 10 related sub themes. The results showed that professional perception negatively shifted in years. This shift was observed to be caused by extrinsic factors (teachers, administrators, students and parents). On the other hand, suggested solutions to eliminate negative professional perception were also observed to be expected from extrinsic factors. The results of the study were discussed within the literature and further suggestions were made.
