textabstractSince the first description of renin by Tigerstedt and Bergmann in 1898,1 the reninangiotensin
system (RAS) has been extensively studied. In the last decades, many
investigations have demonstrated the importance of the RAS for maintenance and regulation
of many physiological processes. One of the most prominent functions of the RAS is the
regulation of blood pressure and water homeostasis.
