Intravenous chemotherapy for children at home
2002
Intravenous chemotherapy for children at home. It is becoming common practice for children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia to receive the chemotherapy agent intravenous cytosine arabinoside (cytarabine, ara C), within the home. This practice is enabled by paediatric oncology outreach nurses based in a regional children's cancer centre and is administered by children's community nursing teams. This article discusses the role, development and audit of clinical practice guidelines relating to this work. An audit has found the guidelines to be a useful tool to inform clinical practice.
