Surface rugosity and polarimetric analysis

1996
Reflection polarization properties of a given target, evolve according to its state's surface and to the illumination angle. We have studied the evolution of the polarization given by an iron target the surface of which is progressively debased, the initial surface is polished up to one micron. The polarization is described with the Stokes- Mueller's formalism, from which the matrix exploitation gives us the degree of polarization. We take the measurement of each sample for different angles of incidence. In order to optimize the matrix elements, we reduce the noise by a statistical method. First, the results are presented in a global matrix form, then we present an analysis of the depolarization phenomenon, and we apply some techniques of classification. We also analyze the statistical effect of the polarization transformation on the Poincare sphere.
