Computer implementation and study of a weld model

1989
An analytical model that seeks to represent metal circulations is inside a molten pool is studied. To characterize these circulation effects, the model uses higher-order terms. The authors present a study of the nature of this model, and compare some simulation runs with actual welds. For accurate representation of the weld, not only are nominal values such as penetration-depth and top-width important, but the shape of the weld section is important too. The shape of the weld is a good indication of the 'goodness' of the weld. A flexible and user-friendly user interface to the proposed analytical weld model is presented. The interface allows simulation runs of the model to be displayed against the shape of the actual welds. >
