Renin–angiotensin system and endothelial function

2003
Abstract We report data about the role of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS) in the pathophysiology of endothelial dysfunction. In particular, we emphasize the biologic effects of angiotensin II, the main peptide of the RAS, in the development of some clinical conditions (oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance) that contribute to impairment of vascular endothelium, which is then followed by atherosclerotic lesions and subsequent clinical cardiovascular events.
