A Rectangular Stress-block Model for High-strength Concrete

1997
A rectangular stress block (RSB) model suitable for high-strength concrete (HSC) with strength of concrete (f'c) between 57 MPa and 100 MPa is presented in this paper. It is shown that although the current AS3600-1994 has provisions valid for f'c up to 50 MPa, the AS3600 rectangular stress block can be used for design of reinforced concrete beams and columns made with concrete of strength (f'c) up to 57 MPa. However it is shown in the paper that extrapolating the AS3600 stress block parameters for concretes with f'c greater than 57 MPa would lead to an unsafe design. The proposed rectangular stress block for HSC (57
