MODULAR DATA-PROCESSING SYSTEM USED FOR SIGNALLING

1984
After gaining experience with a first generation of systems designed specifically for facilitating traffic movement, the SNCF is now applying a policy aimed at making these systems modular and standard. This article explains how the change from specific to modular systems is evolving and why a policy for introducing mudules has been adopted. It describes the main modular units already in service, being built or in the planning stage by making a distinction between systems designed to facilitate traffic movement: train announcement, free-flow traffic monitoring, train sequence lists, automatic compilation of working timetables, and systems designed for signalling: teletransmission of data, automatic route-setting control, display of signalling information.
