Electron-beam Welding for AZ31B Alloy Sheet with 6 mm Thickness

2011
A finite element model of the process was set up by using an uncoupled thermal-mechanical analysis.Subsequently, the thermal analysis was used to drive the non-linear mechanical analysis.AZ31 alloy sheet with 6 mm thickness was used to simulate the distribution of temperature field and the weld pool shape by electron beam overlaying welding without surfacing welding rode. The heat source was modelled using a Rotray-gauss body heat source with Gaussian power density distribution in order to present the variation of the temperature field.By contrast the shape of the fusion zone(FZ) from the simulation with experiment, the temperature field measuring with thermocouples matches well with experimentally determining weld pool nail shape.
