TFCC Repair: Chow Technique

2001
The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) has various functions of load sharing and joint stabilization through flexion/extension, radial deviation, and pronation/supination. The TFCC acts as an extension of the articular surface of the radius, supporting the proximal carpal row and stabilizing the distal radioulnar joint. The volar carpal ligament assists in limiting wrist extension and radial deviation, along with stabilizing the volarulnar aspect of the carpus. Individuals with congenital or acquired “positive ulnar variance” are subject to unusual compressive loads between the head of the ulna and ulnolunate, which can result in central wearing or tearing of the TFCC.
