Nefrolitotomía percutánea en un hospital tipo IV: Experiencia en 24 pacientes

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) is the procedure of choice in cases of multiple kidney stones, stones greater than 2 cm or located in the lower calyx with a low percentage of complications. Objective: To present the experience in our institution of percutaneous nephrolithotomy as a surgical treatment for renal lithiasis. Methods: This is a descriptive and retrospective study, where the medical records of patients admitted to the Urology Service of the Dr. Miguel Perez Carreno Hospital from January to May 2018 with a diagnosis of renal lithiasis who underwent PNL were reviewed. Results: 24 patients were evaluated, the female sex was 58%, the average of the Hounsfield Units of the stone was 890.8 HU, The mean radiation time was 26.2 minutes, and the surgical time was 82.3 minutes. the stone-free rate was 92.28%, the incidence of complications was 5 patients (20.8%), most of them with moderate to severe post-surgical pain; there were no factors associated with complications. Conclusions: PNL is a safe procedure for the treatment of renal lithiasis, with a low rate of complications in our center.
