Surface crack analysis of Cr12MoV steel cutter

The crack reason of cutter was analyzed by means of chemical composition metallographic examination and hardness testing.The results show that severe shortage of temper,reticular eutectic carbide and high intensity grinding have resulted in the grinding crack of cutter.Tempering twice at 160℃ for 3h,reducing the stock removal and cutting speed and cooling enough when grinding can avoid efficiently the grinding crack for the steel cutter.
