Heart Defects with Indication for Neonatal Surgery

2019
In Chap. 15, typical examples of the various groups of heart defects requiring intervention in the neonatal phase are used to discuss surgical procedures and postoperative therapy in the ICU. A description of the “standard patient” is preceded by explanations on how to identify and treat typical disease-related complications. Right heart obstructions, left heart obstructions, transposition of the great arteries, and anomalous pulmonary venous connections receive particular attention. Lastly, options for initiating univentricular palliation are described.
