Current status of the AMS facility at the Tono Geoscience Center of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency

2013
Abstract The JAEA-AMS-TONO system is routinely used for 14 C measurements at Tono Geoscience Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and applied to neotectonics and hydrogeology, in support of research on geosphere stability applicable to the long-term isolation of high-level radioactive waste. 10 Be AMS has been developed for geochronological studies to estimate sedimentation rates and exposure age of basement rocks, incorporating a gas ionization detector with a large-volume gas absorber cell. Test measurements on 14 C and 10 Be reference materials show the system’s performance and suitability for application in the geosciences.
