Contributions and Financial Reporting for the DoD Education Benefits Trust Fund

Abstract : The DoD Education Benefits Trust Fund (the Fund) was established by Public Law 98-525, the "Montgomery GI Bill Act of 1984," to fund education benefits for active and reserve military personnel. Each Service component contributes to the Fund based on a per capita rate developed by the Office of the DoD Actuary. In FY 1992, the Fund had revenue of $98.3 million and paid $170.4 million to 143,000 individual participants. The revenue consisted of $41.3 million of contributions from the Services and $57.0 million of interest earned on Department of the Treasury securities. As of September 30, 1992, the Fund had $692.3 million of assets.
